A biosafety cabinet (BSC) is an enclosed, ventilated workspace designed to protect laboratory personnel, the environment, and the materials being manipulated from exposure to hazardous biological agents. It achieves this through a combination of inward airflow to create a barrier against aerosols, and downward HEPA-filtered airflow to protect the product being worked on.
